Beach vs cliff wedding in Bali

Barefoot on the sand or high above the ocean? An honest comparison to help you choose.

In short

Choose a cliff-top wedding for dramatic ocean views and iconic photos, and a beach wedding for a barefoot, relaxed feel. Cliffs are more private but can be windy and have higher venue fees; beaches are public and depend on tides and heat. Many couples combine the best of both: a garden ceremony with beach and cliff photos.

The case for a beach wedding

Feet in the sand, the sound of the waves and a relaxed atmosphere – a beach wedding is pure holiday romance. In the Uluwatu area, Bingin, Padang Padang and Melasti are beautiful backdrops. Keep in mind: tides change the beach every few hours, midday sun is intense and you will rarely have the beach to yourselves.

The case for a cliff-top wedding

Uluwatu’s limestone cliffs rise up to 70 metres above the Indian Ocean. A cliff-top ceremony at sunset gives you the classic Bali wedding photo and more privacy. The flip side: famous cliff venues book out early and their venue fees can run into thousands of dollars.

The best of both: garden ceremony, beach & cliff photos

At Bella Vida in Bingin your ceremony takes place in a sheltered tropical garden by the pool – no wind, no tides, no strangers. Afterwards your photographer takes you to Bingin beach and the cliffs for golden-hour photos. Your guests stay comfortable and you still get both iconic backdrops. See our Uluwatu photo spots.

Frequently asked

Is a beach wedding in Bali private?

Usually not completely. Most beaches in Bali are public, so other visitors, surfers and vendors may be around. Beachfront venues can offer a semi-private area; for full privacy a garden or cliff-top venue is better.

Is it windy on the Uluwatu cliffs?

It can be, especially in the dry season (June–September) when trade winds blow from the southeast. Choose a veil that can be pinned, secure decorations and plan a sheltered spot for speeches.

Can we have the ceremony in a garden and photos on the beach?

Yes – that is what many of our couples do. The ceremony takes place in Bella Vida’s tropical garden, then the photographer takes you to Bingin beach or the cliffs for golden-hour photos.
