Bali wedding guides

Everything we know about getting married in Bali – written by our team in Uluwatu.

In short

To plan a wedding in Bali: 1) set your budget and guest list, 2) choose a date in the dry season (April–October) and avoid Nyepi, 3) decide between a symbolic ceremony or a legal wedding in Indonesia, 4) pick a venue and area, 5) book your planner, photographer and guest rooms 9–12 months ahead, and 6) arrive 3–5 days before the big day. The guides below explain every step.

We are a wedding planner and venue in Uluwatu, and these guides answer the questions couples ask us every week. They are written from the island itself – with local prices, the Balinese calendar and the practical details that make a destination wedding run smoothly.

How to plan a wedding in Bali in 7 steps

1. Set your budget

The number of guests is the biggest price driver. Typical 2026 budgets run from USD 1,500–5,000 for an elopement to USD 18,000–35,000 for about 50 guests. Read how much a wedding in Bali costs or try the budget calculator.

2. Choose your date

The dry season from April to October is the most popular; May, June and September are ideal. Avoid Nyepi, the Day of Silence, and check Galungan. See the best time to get married in Bali and the date checker.

3. Symbolic or legal?

Most foreign couples marry legally at home and celebrate with a symbolic ceremony in Bali. A legal wedding in Indonesia is possible but requires a religious ceremony and civil registration – everything is explained in our legal wedding guide.

4. Pick your area and venue

Cliff-top, beach, villa, jungle or resort? Compare them in Bali wedding venues and beach vs cliff, and discover why so many couples choose Uluwatu.

5. Decide on the size

From an elopement for two to a small wedding for 10–30 guests, a full reception or a vow renewal – compare our wedding packages.

6. Make it personal

Add Balinese traditions such as a blessing or gamelan music, and plan your photos at the best Uluwatu photo spots.

7. Prepare your guests and your trip

Follow the 12-month checklist, share our guest guide (visa, tourist levy, dress code) and plan your Bali honeymoon.
